About two weeks ago, I picked up a copy of the ongoing Megaman comic series by Archie Comics at Chapters. I don't usually read comics, but I felt compelled as a Megaman fan to see how faithfully the creators were delivering the original story.
The comic itself was a bit of an insubstantial read, but I didn't mind since I got it largely for the appealing art. Also it was cheap, and because it was my birthday. About the art, the artists very nicely synthesizes the Western and Japanese (anime) styles. The scenes are breathtaking by the way they're drawn and laid out on the pages, which are all in colour so that was pretty sweet. I forgot how much better comic books look when they're in colour from reading almost exclusively manga.
I started with the second volume since Chapters apparently throw out all the old issues, but I was lucky enough to find the first volume at the local comic book store. In volume one, I spotted a few cameos of characters from other Megaman series in the background, though I really only recognized the ones from Legends, which prompted me to share a few that I found.

My cellphone camera sucks at taking pictures up close but in this image, you can just barely make out the Kattelox police officers behind the reporters.

And in this image, which is much clearer, I think we have the reporter from Kattelox at the top, and the island's officers battling the Robot Masters underneath.
It's neat to see these cameos of minor characters from a decade+ old game in the comic, and it makes me wonder if Legends could look like this if it were presented in comic form someday, which I really hope for.
Lastly, here's an image of the covers of the two volumes that are out so far. The story and art is keeping me interested so I plan to visit Chapters for the new volume when it comes out next month. i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx253/kch4lo3/DSC01749.jpg
Edit: I said at the beginning of this post that I find most comics insubstantial content-wise, but this comic really is a nice re-imagining of the events of the first game. I wish old NES games back then came with comics like this to explain why I was crawling through multiple stages for an often obscure reason to accomplish whatever the game objective happened to be.
