Even though MML3 is coming out, which is a good thing, with the good usually comes the bad. I've noticed a few spammers come in lately and that's a bad thing. Consider this as a notice and I'd like to raise awareness so you don't get yourself in trouble. I'd hate to see that happen to any of the good members here.
I have to mention that you're ultimately responsible for your own actions and for clicking on whatever links you click on, but I'm putting out a notice so you know what to do just in case. You've been given a fair warning so we don't claim responsibility for your own actions.
If you ever see a newbie make a post and there is a spam link (usually in the signature line), send a tell to SD with a link to his user page and ask him to delete the account (because I'm incapable of doing so).
DO NOT click on the links they make. Don't click on the link in his sig and don't click on the links they make in the actual posts. If you do, you may be in a world of trouble because the website it links to may have viruses, spyware, malware, spam, or otherwise bad stuff which may ruin your computer. By avoiding the links they make, you shouldn't have to worry about them, and that's simple enough of a safeguard for anyone.
These spammers are usually identified by their use of broken english because it's more than likely the user doesn't speak English as his first language. The content of their posts are also often generic and bland because they don't understand the community they're attacking or don't know much about what we're discussion.
Often, they also have jibberish names (like kellyj994, one of the first ones I've found) and if you click on their user name, you typically see that their account status is not activated. What this means is that the user didn't go to his e-mail (or used a fake e-mail) and didn't activate his account (you need to click on that link in the e-mail and it'll activate your account). This happens for all members when they create a new account. Somehow, though, they're able to make at least one, maybe two posts though. There may be a flaw/loophole in the Proboards software itself that they can get around....
Hopefully, this isn't a default Proboards standard (which I don't believe it is). If you're one of these new members and your post gets deleted, please change your sig so we know you're not here to ruin an otherwise good experience for the rest of us, and yourself.
Typically, this is something called "Phishing." These scumbags and websites often download crap to your computer and attempt to steal your account, your credit card numbers, and so on an so forth from this site and other sites you may go to. This bad software that may sneak into your computer, can scan things you type into web applications, and could cause serious damage to your computer and personal life (such as your standing with banks, insurance, and credit companies).
Make no mistake: if they're not here for MegaMan Legends they're not welcome here to begin with. I'll try my best to delete these posts if I catch them but try to point it out to me or SD as you see them. PM me or SD if you see one of these malicious users because they are NOT welcome here!
Let's keep these boards clean and maintain a safe and friendly environment!
