Earlyier this week.
My friend and I were taking this long bus ride to a skate park. Both of us are fans of the Megaman series and we were discussing a theory I brought up. (I mean hey. What else is there to do on a bus?)
So we think that the Battle Network series is an early era that takes place before the Original series.
Even though this theory is most likely not true and we only have one strong fact.
So in the last battle network game. Near the end of the game Wily stole MegaMan's Cybeast and placed it and his own into Copybots, robots that could bring programs into the real world. (I've only played up to battle network 3. My friend has played all of 'em.)
Maybe the Navi's are early verisons of robots. Think about it... These Navi's have personality and emotions. They could be placed somewhere. All they need is a shell.
Which of course is a robot.
These Navi's could be prototypes for robots.
Do you guys catch my drift?

Sorry, but it's not true. Each MegaMan series takes place after all the previous ones. Certainly there was a divergence when Zero and MMBN ran simultaneously and Capcom took two different paths with Mega, but the rule still stands. Here's the timeline:
Classic MegaMan
MegaMan X
MegaMan Legends
MegaMan Zero/MegaMan Battle Network
MegaMan ZX/MegaMan Star Force
Not only that, but the Classic MegaMan specifically states that the robots are normal robots with normal programming - artificial intelligence, or AI, not a personality-possessing program. It's even possible that the Internet did not exist during the Classic era - at least I've never seen it used in any Classic game. The Navi/CopyBot theory just doesn't fit the games or Capcom's official statements.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense! I've always been wondering how/if the series tie together. We know the Original, X, and Zero series are tied together, but I wish the link between X and Zero were a little...clearer... Command Mission and X6 kinda messed it up for the Zero series. At the end of X6, it says that Zero goes into hibernation for 100 years, which would start the Zero Series, but Command Mission is supposed to take place more than 100 years into the future and in Command Mission Zero doesn't look like he does in the Zero series. Uhhh...I'm confused. lol I'm also wondering about Star Force. I'm not sure if it shares the same world or universe as Battle Network, but there's a chance it's the future of Lan's world. But I really hope that all the series are linked in some way. Using your theory, punkrocker, I'll guess they go like this! MegaMan Battle Network MegaMan Star Force MegaMan MegaMan X MegaMan Zero MegaMan Legends [EDIT] Oh! I totally forgot about ZX. ZX had a reference to Zero, being a legendary hero and Omega Zero appearing as a special boss, but Zero's also referred to as a legendary hero in Legends. I'm not sure if ZX ties with the Zero series or not. |

Not to mention X7 and X8, Kobun.  I'd like to add additional evidence of my timeline's correctness. In MegaMan Zero (I can't remember which one or which boss battle this was in), there is a crystal that looks EXACTLY like a Quantum Refractor in the background. Legends obviously occurred prior to Zero or such a reference would not be made. Either that, or Refractors existed long before Legends, which doesn't fit with the whole Ancients thing. In Legends 2, there is a picture of Black Zero in one of the buildings in Yosyonke. That puts Legends after X. So if Legends is AFTER X but BEFORE Zero, it must go in between, right? Hence my timeline. Also, in MegaMan Battle Network 5, there is a picture of Dr. Light in Lan's room. That puts MMBN after Classic, not before. |

I use to think the same thing back when MMBN was a new series punkrocker. However it's just not true. The Battle Network series is an alternate timeline from the Original series. Both series' have games that take place during the 200X era and obviously would conflict when trying to line them up. The timelines would read like this:
MegaMan -> MegaMan X -> MegaMan Zero -> MegaMan ZX -> MegaMan Legends
MegaMan Battle Network -> MegaMan Star Force

In MegaMan Zero, there is a crystal that looks EXACTLY like a Quantum Refractor in the background. I remember that! I had the same thought when I walked into that room. "Refractor...?! ;D" There's also those bats in Zero that have an eye similar to the reaverbots. Early reaverbots, maybe? |

Wait a minute, Danny. Wouldn't Legends technically be classed all by itself? I mean, it of all Mega games does NOT involve actual humans, right? Just human copies, aka Carbons. Classic MegaMan uses real humans, as do all the other series. So really, shouldn't Legends go in its own timeline, like this?
MegaMan --> MegaMan X --> MegaMan Zero --> MegaMan ZX
MegaMan Battle Network --> MegaMan Star Force
MegaMan Legends
The Mega timeline seems to make more sense this way. With Legends on the end of the original timeline (the top one), it keeps getting pushed further and further into the future with every new series released in that timeline. By itself, it's much easier to interpret as being a unique situation on a planet other than Earth, whereas all other MegaMan games occur here on terra firma.

It's been stated long ago that Legends takes place several thousands of years after the X series.
That info comes from Rockman Perfect Works - a japanese book never to be translated to English. It came from a book released somewhere between 5-8 years ago at the last anniversary of MegaMan.
The Master says himself that he's lived for 3000 years in MML2, so the games take place AT LEAST 3000 years after the X series.

Then the timeline would place MegaMan Legends in 25XX, providing you count X Command Mission as the end of the X series and assume that the Master was born just after MMXCM (which may or may not be true). So 25XX is a minimum date for Legends, which means Capcom had better watch out for overlapping timeline since they've jumped ahead of themselves here. |

It'd be more like 55XX, since he was alive for 3000 years and the X series took place in 21XX.
Never played Command Mission though.

And you really need to play MMXCM. It's the first, last, and only MegaMan-only turn-based RPG (so far, that is - once you've played it you'll ache for a sequel). X's Ultimate Armor and Zero's Absolute Zero forms are uber-powerful - you can literally take down the final boss in about ten turns (and each character's move is counted as one turn). Red Lotus Saber, X Buster MKIII, Axl's Ancient Gun - such pwnage... |

Doesn't Legends take place in 8XXX? Anyways, Supposedly, X created Elysium, and Trigger is based off of X. He took all the humans to Elysium during the great disaster which is supposed to happen somewhere in ZX(the whole world gets flooded, which kills all the reploids if my memory serves; this is explains why Terra is full of islands).
The Master needed Trigger to destroy the system because only one with X's code(or something like that) could shut it down...

I've heard a decent argument made for 80XX; something about a historically significant period known as the Halcyon Days in like 8000BC or something like that..
Trigger is based off a "Legendary Hero" we assume to be X. There's no real mention of his having X's code at all, but he does have the Master's Genetic Sample("a good luck charm"). That's not to say that he needs the Master's Genetic Sample to delete the data in the Library; anyone could do that. MegaMan Trigger is a very capable purifier, though, and it's not likely that many others apart from him would've been able to take Sera down.
We'll have to wait and see what happens in ZX. As for X creating and bringing people to Elysium, I believe that was an ending in X5. It may end up happening somehow in ZX, though, we'll have to wait and see..
