Yuna’s fingers (in Mitalda’s body) danced over the control panel. “Trigger, I’ve detected numerous reaverbot activity near Razeal Generator 2. I will not be able to power up systems with them in the way. Remove them.”
“Copy that, Yuna. Megaman out.”
Megaman dashed behind a pillar, and took a peak over his shoulder. Yuna’s info was accurate enough. There were about a dozen reaverbots surrounding the Razeal refractor generator, and another half dozen on the catwalk above them. Megaman pressed the Comm button on the side of his helmet. “Yuna, you’re right. But there are too many reaverbots here. I cannot eliminate them without the possibility of damaging the generator.”
The intercom crackled. “Keep a watch on them for now. Sera’s already heading your way.”
Making sure his weapon was hot, Megaman breathed in deeply. Normally, a squadron of reaverbots like this would have been a piece of cake for Megaman, who had sharpened his skills immensely during the four months of isolation with the Mother Units on the now dead Elysium. The generator, however, was the only key they have to defending themselves from the hordes of Reaverbots that now inhabited Elysium, and possibly leaving their space prison as well. A loud drilling noise surprised Megaman, who swiftly directed his attention to the reaverbots. “Oh no!” Megaman slammed his thumb on the intercom switch. “Yuna, the reaverbots are attacking the generator! I’ve moving out!”
Hoping to catch the intruders by surprise, Megaman jumped out from hiding, and shot two bolts from his buster cannon. The first shot decapitated the driller, and the one beside it took a direct hit in the stomach, wheeled back from the impact, overturned, and landed on top of the companion behind him. The two reaverbot flung their arms frantically trying to get one of the other, to no avail.
The reaverbots on the catwalk reacted more quickly than the ones below them, and soon jumped down to support their comrades. This was what Megaman was waiting for, who let loose a barrage that levelled nearly a dozen of the reaverbots. One of the reaverbots were intelligent enough to immediately take cover behind the generator, forcing Megaman to divert his attention to the others who were already closing in.
The flat headed reaverbot took a bulky swing at Megaman, who ducked just as the mace like arm took a chunk off the wall. Grabbing his attacker’s ram, Megaman stuck the barrel of his buster into the eye of his attacker and destroyed the robotic brain. There were however 6 more reaverbots still standing, and 3 of them had long range weapons, who immediately took advantage of Megaman being cornered. Streaks of green energy sizzled in the air towards Megaman. Thinking fast, Megaman put his free arm on the side of the deactivated reaverbot and lifted him up as a shield against the deadly rays.
The reaverbot he was holding blew into chunks in his arm, and finally exploded a second time, throwing a singed Megaman off balance. Megaman recovered in mid air, and pushed himself upwards onto the catwalk with his hand, when his body was near vertical with the ground. With the higher ground as his advantage, Megaman managed to knock out two more reaverbots. Unfortunately, he was so preoccupied with the long ranged reaverbots, Megaman was not prepared when the catwalk suddenly collapsed. Megaman rolled head over heels off the catwalk and into the armored chest of a reaverbot.
The humongous arm came down almost immediately. Megaman barely blocking the arm with both his arms, gripping tightly.
“Trigger. Respond! What is your status!” Yuna was near screaming into the intercom now.
Amidst all that chaos, nobody noticed nor reacted in time when the steel doors slide open, and Sera (in Yuna’s body) flew in, and morphed only her arm into her armored form. Sera smashed the reaverbot closest to her with no hesitation. Littered pieces of the reaverbot light up and incinerated when Sera charged her arm and fired off a buster shot, slightly more powerful than Megaman’s Terra designed buster cannon.
The reaverbot on top of Megaman was engulfed by the shot, leaving no parts intact, other than the lower piece of the arm which Megaman still held on to.
“Get up, Trigger. We aren’t done yet.” A second patrol of reaverbots came in through the door opposite to the one Sera entered from.
“Right.” After their four months together on Elysium, Megaman still believed that Sera still wouldn’t really call him her friend. He had reasons to believe that part of the jealousy Sera expressed before their final battle against each other, still lingered. When they were fighting together, however, they were a formidable foe.
“Trigger, Sera, stand away from the generator and the doors, I’m powering up generators.” Yuna’s voice broke in through the clashes of battle, quickly followed by the humming of the Razeal generator as the large refractor inside fed power to the systems. The frames of the doors turned a dim blue, and electricity flew from one side to the other. Any reaverbots caught in the middle were electrified, and were instantly brought offline. (think of the door in the beginning of MML1, where you had to destroy these little pillars thingy to shut them down)
“Whew, thanks, Yuna.” Megaman took off his helmet, and ran his hand through his thick chestnut brown hair. Sera was a little way off, brushing a little dirt off her shoulders and her dress.
“We should return now.” Sera spoke simply. Megaman had no reasons to disagree.
---------------
“Yuna, we’re back.” Megaman and Sera walked through the thick bulk doors and into one of Elysium’s control center, Yggradasil.
“I’m aware of that, Trigger. Fine battle. ” Rare as it was, Yuna was beaming. “Thanks to your efforts, I’ve been able to bring power to another part of the outpost. Shields are still at minimum but they will keep the reaverbots out for now.”
“Great!” Megaman was grateful that he could finally settle down more comfortably without the fear of being ambushed. Sera, as always, remained impassive.
“What about weapons?” Sera asked.
Yuna shook her head. “Still offline. We barely have enough power for the shields even now. It’s going to take much more to bring the weaponry online.”
Trigger was a little taken back. “What kind of weapons?”
“Why energy weapons and anti-reaverbot mines of course.” Yuna said.
Sera butted in. “You forget again, Trigger, that Yggradasil is more than just a command center, it’s one of the combat outposts that were pitted against the Elders during the last war.”
“It’s an intergalactic spacecraft as well, now that you mention it. Yggradasil is able to detach itself from central Elysium and give orders right at the front lines. (Think of it as something like that box thingy that appeared over Kattelox in MML1)
“Wow…that’s really nice. So any chance of us getting home with this…Yar..Ga..Dasil?” (there goes Megaman and his bad spelling again)
“Not possibe. Thrusters were obviously damaged in the last battle. This outpost won’t be going anywhere.”
“So why can’t we just power the weapons with the other Razeal generators in the city?” Megaman asked.
“Because this outpost along with everything on Elysium used to be powered by the motherlode, and all of the generators on Elysium now does not produce even a fraction of what the motherlode would have provided. But the motherlode…it’s” Sera shot a look at Yuna, who shook her head. “It’s…no longer here.”
“It’s on Terra isn’t it. I knew it.” Megaman was at least glad to know that Roll and him weren’t digging for nothing back on Terra.
Sera concluded the meeting with a little reminder of their grim situation, and a number of plans for the future. Megaman just hoped that Roll will come to pick him up soon.
