 SuperDanny's Namco X Capcom Coverage
« Thread Started on Jun 8, 2005, 11:00pm »

Wow... it's been awhile since I posted, let alone even came here, sorry everyone. I've been waiting and waiting for my precious copy of Namco X Capcom to come in the mail, and FINALLY today it has arrived!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/SuperDanny/Picture105.jpg

The package kicks! Very awesome artwork, and the game manual is cool looking too. No new art of our Dash characters in it, but if you'd like to me to scan any manual pictures of the Dash characters I'd be glad to. Also, the manual comes with a detailed poster-like thing that explains the battle system, both in Japanese AND English! This made the game much easier to get the hang of.

Anyways, after finally getting my crummy PS2 to play this Japanese game, I begin a new file, after watching an intro and listening to that KICKASS song we all love from the trailer. The game starts off AWFUL! AWUGH It's SOOOOOOO Boring, you just, read, listen, read, listen, character does this, character does that, yadda yadda. Once I start battling, it doesn't really get any better. The battle system is very detailed and complicated. Your on a grid, and you move to squares, move your character next to an enemy to perform a close range attack, or if your character can, get somewhat near an enemy and do a long range attack. Basically, it's just 1 turn, you chain together as many attacks as you can, try to time it right to score multiple hits, and then either win or have your enemy still remain alive after your attack is done. When an enemy attacks you, you can chose how to defend againist him before the attack... but it's mainly just, play a little "press the button on the screen" game, the better you do, the less damage you receive.

So... the games story, since it's in Japanese, I have no damn clue what the frick is going on. Those main characters, that guy and the blonde girl, are hanging out and suddenly random Street Fighter characters and Xenosaga characters come out of nowhere, and start fighting familiar opponents... and the gy and blonde girl help... after that, it goes somewhere else, and pretty much does the same thing, but with other characters. As you progress through the level, and kill enemies, other characters show up, dialouges begin, and eventually, you can use this new character to play as. The 3rd level is where the fun begins though. It's in some old Japan area, samurai-ish characters are fighting... and then sure enough, Tron Bonne and her Kobuns come out of nowhere, fighting reaverbots. PURE. AWESOME. Her theme song is a remix of the ever awesome song, the Gesellschaft vs. Flutter cutscene BGM from MegaMan Legends 1. Controlling Tron is wonderful, her sprites are so cute, the kobuns are hilarious, even in Japanese. The reaverbots I fought were Zakobans, very awesome sprites for them too. I couldn't get enough of the awesome theme song for Tron, so I made an MP3 of it. Feel free to AIM me and I'll send it to you... kick ass remix it is indeed.

After that, I played a Ghouls & Ghosts chapter, and a Street Fighter/Dino Crisis chapter. Whenever a new chapter begins, sadly you cannot take the characters with you. However, the manual says eventually you can choose your own team, and play scenarios with your custom made army... I'm taking a break right now, but I'll most likely be playing this all night long. The game is... a little crappy, I hate RPGs, but man... seeing Tron like that makes it totally worth everything! It's so incredible for me to see Tron again, doing stuff I've never seen her do... I was going nuts when she burst on to the screen... Here's some screen shots I made with my very very very crappy Web Cam, I apologize for the terrible quality.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/SuperDanny/Picture106.jpg

I'll be sure to post any new stuff I find in the game here as I play it. I still haven't found Rock and Roll! AND JUNO!! HERE I COME JUNOOOOOO!!!!

Awesome Danny, you got the game.

I dunno, but I've heard that if this doesn't come to America, there are plenty of people that would convert it to a ROM and translate it. I've seen a person on GameFAQs talk about translating it himself, but I'm not very sure about him.

It sounds...not good. Oh well! As long as it has Tron and the Servbots, I'll still get it.

Yeah MY, I like that screen shot... it's also been on my website for while now :P ;)

Yeah SIM I have both videos saved man, awesome stuff. The second one is literally the video games very intro for it, so I already saw it on my PS2 before seeing the video file. Nothing beats actual DVD quality for such amazing Anime, I tell you what I was blown away by that opening, very intense and that song is damn awesome.

Well... I've played a lot more... and man this game really just, isn't much fun. There is no sense of freedom whatsoever, the only time your controlling your characters is during the battle scenes, and you can only move them so many squares every turn, so roaming the playfield is pretty... pointless and can only hurt your progress. In between battles... there is no such thing, it's a menu, with options everywhere that I hardly understand and I can't make sense out of them, but basically, you set everything up for another battle, and off you go, after skimming through tons and tons of more Japanese text to progress the plot.

I've done, I THINK like 5 new chapters since my Tron seizure, and STILL no Rock, Roll or Juno, I haven't even had the chance to use Tron again... very annoying, but I have the chapter where Tron comes in saved on my memory card, so... I could always watch it again, but it'd be nice to see her again, I hope to God Tron and Rock meet in this game.

I'll be playing it all tonight and a little tomorrow as well, hopefully soon I can have the game beat, and be able to share with you all just what kind of role our characters serve in this massive game.

Well, that's what a Turn-based Strategy game is like, Danny. I think I'd love the game cause it'd be a lot like FFT. I think FFT was my first 100 hour game.

Anyways, the game better come to America or I'll download a rom, translated.

Heh, SIMS is correct in that pretty much all strategy games follow a similar mold. Judging from SD’s comments I think it’s safe to say that Strategy games are not Danny’s kind of game. Most sites give NxC from a 7 to a 9 out of 10 rating, but really, it just depends upon how much you like the strategy genera and how much you know about the library of Namco and Capcom characters. You see, someone who knew all the characters and liked them would find themselves going through SD’s Tron spasm repeatedly. It’s for those people that this game was made… and Namco’s anniversary.

As for the NxC, it seems a lot like Fire Emblem, one of my favorites. FFT is somewhat different in that you could roam around a world map and go wherever and your army consisted of average look-alike characters until later in the game. In FE you pretty much went where the story wanted you to go without time to level or whatever and all your characters were unique. Linear, yes, but fun at the same time, at least to some. It was also hard, and unlike FFT, when a character fell he was dead and gone for good and a reset was your only chance to revive them.

One thing that seems somewhat disappointing is that most people say NxC is too easy. It seems long enough though. Meh, so long as they have higher difficulties I’ll be happy. Anyways, the game would be best with a comprehensive story, so I may do the same as SIMS and wait for translation.

That said, if you want to see if you’ll like NxC, try playing Fire Emblem and if you hate it, you’ll hate NxC. If you love it, you’ll no doubt find NxC interesting, especially if you have an extensive knowledge of Namco and Capcom characters. You could also try FFT as it’s common and inexpensive. Either game is worth your time.

MML NxC voice actors

Rockman Volnutt - Tanaka Mayumi

Roll Casket - Yokozawa Keiko

Tron Bonne - Iizuka Mayumi

Kobun - Yokoyama Chisa

Theme song - Subarashiki Shin Sekai

ALRIGHT! Tron is officially ON my team!! My main group found her on a spooky island, with the Gesellschaft crashed in the background. Her and some other couple were surrounded by reaverbots and blue alien creatures, after I killed a few, my main group of characters showed up and helped out. No other Legends enemies appeared during all this, but after the chapter, the Gesellschaft takes flight with my main characters in it! It's very very very awesome, during the story dialog, all the characters are in different sections of the Gesellschaft, just like in Misadventures. The Balcon Gerald was shown, but just a picture of it in the background, as if Tron is using it or something, not quite sure. Now the chapters are back to normal, but it does seem like I'm able to use Tron all I want now, and the Gesellschaft seems to be playing an important part in the story. This game just got 100 times funner now! ;D

I'll be sure to tell you guys when I find anymore Legends stuff, if you'd like me to elaborate on certain things, or if you have any questions, please please insist! I'm here to quench everyone's curiosity on the game, so please ask away!

Not quite. There are games that rule like Final Fantasy Tactics, and then ther are fair games like Warcraft, and there are more types of strategy games like this one army game I rented for the SNES. And there are still others like Ring of Red.

Eh, my mistake. I was being a bit too general. There are quite a few sub generes of strategy, but generally when I think of strategy games, at least turn based ones, I think of FFT and Fire Emblem. Ah, I do have to wonder what will happen when/if Tron and Rock meet up… and Roll for that matter. If this takes place before MML2 (or at least before the ending) Roll will have never met Tron. Ah, if only you could understand Japanese…

Anyways, I just thought I’d post this. Subarashiki Shin Sekai (click to download). This is that song from the movies that everyone seems to like. RPM just posted the entire pre-order CD so if you want to see what else is on there, you can head over there (Er, here). From what I can tell, it’s mainly just tracks from old games in which the characters are from (DASH not included), but I’m not sure seeing as I haven’t played NxC yet. When they release an extended version I’ll see if I can get it (this one is only 2:44). If there are any errors with the song, just ask and I'll re-upload it, or just get the entire thing from RPM. Anyway, here are the lyrics…

Subarashiki Shin Sekai (Brave New World) Lyrics

Seijaku no machi yuragi ni michite
Michishirube sae marude maboroshi

Motometemo kogaretemo tsukamenai tooi sora wa
subete o dakitomete someagete yuku

Sekai wakatsu sora ni mimi o sumaseba
(Brave New World) Maneku koe ga hibiku

Sekai wakatsu sora o huriaogu toki
(Brave New World) Dorama wa maku akeru

Kousa suru Shinsekai hikareau
Hikari mo yami mo yagate tokete hitotsu ni naru

Tooi kono sora ga sekai o wakachi
sonutse umareru Shinsekai

Sekai wakatsu sora o huriaogu toki
(Brave New World) Dorama wa maku akeru

Dakara

Ima wa mayoi harai ima wa hurikaerazu ni
arukidasou tsuduku sora e

Ude ni chikara Mune ni inori
Kaze ni kokoro Chirasanaide

Asu no yume to negai daite
Shinsekai o tomo ni kakeyou

(This is from this site.)

And Happy Late Birthday SIMS… Just felt like putting that here. :P

EDIT: If you want to download the pre-order CD from RPM, you'll need a program to open .rar files. You can get one here. it's free-ish too.

Danny, is there a storyline to it or a mini-plot for each character?
